HLA/Immunogenetics Laboratory Profiles
Periodic HLA Antibody Screening of Candidates for Transplant from Deceased Donors
Tests Ordered:
Patients awaiting kidney and/or pancreas deceased donor transplantation periodically submit samples to the HLA/Immunogenetics Laboratory so that their HLA antibody levels (PRA) can be monitored. The samples are usually drawn at dialysis centers or at home, and sent to the HLA/Immunogenetics Laboratory in shipping containers provided by the laboratory.
Testing Details for Periodic HLA Antibody Screening
- Specimen Requirements:
- One 10cc clotted blood (red top, provided by the HLA laboratory)
- Labeling Requirements:
- Specimens are pre-labeled with the patient’s first and last name plus a coded unique ID. Specimen collection date must be provided by drawing facility or the sample is unacceptable.
- Analytic Time:
- 5 to 10 business days
- Testing Schedule:
- Monday through Friday
